Measure the laundry space including the door swing, and check whether the space is a closet — closets often rule out a top-load lid that opens upward.
Top-load machines cost less and load without bending. Front-load machines use less water, spin faster so clothes leave drier, and can be stacked with a matching dryer where floor space is tight.
